I use Spectre.
+1 Go Spectre and dont think too hard about this one. Its probably the cheapest out there, and if you go FI then you may have to change the intake tube anyways. Mine works very well with minimal investment of time or money

Don't worry too much about trying to get a ram air effect. You have to have triple-digit speeds before there's a measureable benefit. Just make sure that it receives the cooler outside air and not engine bay air.Quote:

Well only reason i was wanting ram air was we tested a k&n against a vararam tripower. Improved 1/4 mile by .9 seconds...
So the spectre?
To make a 0.9 sec improvement in ET for a typical 5500# truck that runs in the 15's would take 50-60 addtional HP. Do you really think the Vararam adds that much? Please. That's about the same as adding a moderate cam and tune.Quote:

spectres cheap and good. if its a nnbs truck youll have to do some modifying to make it fit.

Guess i see what ya'll are saying... looked up the spectre and it's only like 110 bucks shipped.
I run the Spectre and so does one of my friends. No issues here.
Could you notice a gain in power with it? Found a k&n 77 series for $100 off of an 06
just get the best deal possible, because all of these things are too close to call as far as performance is concerned. I would go for this k&n since its cheaper
airaid jr or drop in k&N filter and airaid MIT, its a nice setup
If you want a cone type intake, I really like the S&B kit a friend of mine has, and is cheaper than the vr or K&N

slightly off topic but i have a friend with a ricer and he artistically thought up the idea of having an exhaust shop bending him his own custom intake pipe? now it was only a 3in pipe but turned out clean and got it done for like 40 bucks minus like 2 clamps and a filter.......has anyone tried or thought to try to do this on our style trucks?
..kinda makes sense to me but what do i know lol....:newbie:
Exh shop is going to squeeze the pipe down to a smaller size at every bend. :twocents:

Yeah bro that was an absurd statement up above. Not trying to bust balls or anything. Any restriction to the tubing is going to be a detriment to performance, which is of course why you go through the trouble of installing an aftermarket cai in the first place. Same goes for the exhaustQuote:

I think we're on the same page here, technically. I know what you're getting at, regarding the negligible difference that a non-mandrel bend makes in relation to the airflow capabilities of the tb. My main point was that if you're gonna go through the trouble of replacing your cai, then you had better make sure you're maximizing all your potential variables. can get a decent off brand on e bay for less than $75 shipped that includes the filter, dam, polished tube, brackets and so on. it looks like a spectre that sells for about $150 at autozone
