Thread: New exhaust pipe

1. #1
I changed my exhaust today, and now i feel my truck faster top end, but slower on the bottom end. I have a borla muffler, with the tips coming out before the rear tire. Now i put a 3" pipe all the way back dumped after the axle. Do you think i lost power? Maybe it is just me. Anyone had an experience like this??

i did the exact opposite about 20 minutes ago... i had 3 inch pipe put into a 5inch exhaust tip about 2 foot in front of the rear tire... had bad bottom end but good top end... now i have 3 inch ran and dumped right in front of teh axle... i can feel more bottom end, but havent gotten a chance to check the top end yet....

basically i know someone else can explain it better and i know it has been done b4, but the more open it is the better exhaust flows...so hence more flow more top end power... the more restricted teh more torque, so hence more low end power less top end.... basically how i think of it

Yeah thats what i was thinking. Since there's like curves on the side exhaust there's more back pressure, and now that the pipe is all the way back there isn't as much back pressure thus more top end

jaja, i put a 3" from the muffler back dumper right after the axle. I also do the races from a roll. I prefer to have the more power top end. I didn't lose as much power down low as i thought but i still did. Looks like a good trade off for the power on top.

back pressure is the key on this. the more back pressure the better ur low end, and vice versa. i could tell on my 4.3 wheni took my cats out that my top end was outrageously different, but the low end seemed weaker.

So i guess what would solve all of our problems would be to have an electronic cutout so we can have it closed at low rpm's and then have it open up for the top end. What do you yall think about this assesment?
