OK, this is my anal self starting my research WAY early. But it has to be done sometime, so...

I know most guys get the Pacesetters. My worry is having problems passing inspection (smog issues?).

Add to that I really like the quality of Thorley's. But apparently for my truck all they carry is shorties. But one of the guys there said they would be better anyway, because I would see gains at around 2k rpm as opposed to much higher rpms with the long tubes.

What are everyones thoughts. What are you runnning. Would you buy them again....?

hey Moze do what i do.... find you a good inspection place.... i know of a few that *cough* look the other way *cough* in this area.... for our trucks all they ever did at my inspection was plug into the OBD2 port and check the computer i guess...... if you get the long tubes with an Off Road Y pipe, you can always get a tune with o2 deletes, or go get some o2 simulators......

If you plan on an STS turbo stay with your stock manifolds.

Thanks for the responses guys. One of the other guys from Thorley's called me back and said with almost any of the long tubes, I'd have problems with inspections. So as long as I knew a "lenient" inspector I guess the Pacesetters are still a good option.

Granted, they're understandably biased, but these were his words:

"Long tubes will make more hp at 6K rpm but will lose you hp and torque at 2K rpm. Would you rather have bottom end and better gas mileage on the bottom-end or more hp at a spot where it would not be usable? Long tubes are for drag racers. Plus there is the fact that Pacesetter is not legal for use on U.S. roads. The box says "For Off-Road use only". The shorties will not negatively affect the mid or top because they were dyno tuned for your application. They still flow a lot better than a stock manifold would do to the availability of more volumetric efficiency. The top-end will improve over stock just not as much as Long Tubes would help."

Made shorties sound pretty appealing, but my low end torque is pretty good with the converter, I want mid-top end. Which I would think would mean LT's.

Do they make a midlength header? maybe to satisfy both low and top end your looking for?

Moze, I should have let you see the Pacesetters I had in the shop. Laser cut thick flanges, coated,etc.. They fit great and look great, especially for the price. Also, if you use cats, then it will pass normally.
We normally do them with the ory, but just get two high flow cats and your golden.
