Well i finally bought a 97 ext cab 2wd GMC with the 5.7.

I was wondering what kinds of power increases a tune will show with this engine? Also, any cheap mods I can do to free up a few horses on this engine?

There is a thing attached to the throttle blade on the obs 5.7 vortech motors that is supposed to restrict the incoming air at low throttle positions. I can't remember exactly why but it's there and if you remove it you will gain some additional cfm and better throttle response. BTW a hootus is a technical term for any unnamed or unidentified part, thingamajig, dill, or doodad.

Here's a link to a picture of it. Scroll down and look at the before & after pics.
