So my shift points are currently at 6000RPM. Is it safe to boost it up? What is it safe to boost it too? What kind of improvements could be there at various increases?
Thnx

Edel IAS shocks, Hotchkis front/rear antisway bars, 3.73 Axle w/ 8.5" -10-bolt w/ Eaton Posi
With that cam and the 3.73 gears, I would guess that thing would pull to 6300 rpms.
Set your rev limiter higher and manual shift the truck, find out where the power starts to fall off.
You can't go by a dyno graph because trucks will pull differently on the street when comparing the hp/tq numbers @ xx rpms.
For example, a short tire and steep gears on a stock cam will easily pull to 6000rpms, however the power will show only up to about 5600rpms.
You know your truck best, so just take it up until you feel the power drop off, then that'll give you a good idea where to set the shift point.
hope this helps,
allen

Thanks Allen,
I'm thinking of one day changing to that G5X2 cam I showed you back on the modded SRT-4 string. I run 275/60R15s and probably won't change that too much - might go to 17" one day, but not anytime soon.
What do you think with that cam?

No problem,
on that GX cam, shit, I bet that thing will pull to 7K rpms in no time with those gears you have and those somewhat short tires!
I'm considering that cam as well along with some ETP heads on the GTO.
thanks

So any idea of the kind of performance gains of changing the shift points from 6000 to 6300rpm? I'm not asking for my application, just in general?
