    Hey!

Well I've got a 1988 k1500 4x4 with a 5.0l 305 in it. Found a great deal on a 454 Big Block.. And was wondering if anyones done a swap like this before.. Basicly all I need are the motor mounts.. Anyone know what I can use that will work? Or have some Ideas anyway?? Any thoughts are great!!! Thanks!

What are you doing about your tranny? Higher rate torsion bars? 4L60 is pretty puny for that motor. I'd personally rather do a 383/406 SB for that truck, but you say you're getting a cheap BB. Either way, I'd still want a beefed tranny.

Yes, the tranny is just the old 700r4.. But It's brand new, like 1k or less on it.. I would most deffinitly do like a 383, but I'd still have to buy a new block.. Since the 305 is kinda.. umm.. well a 305. The 454 is 800$ with everything - the intake, olny 12k miles on it.. so I'm thinking it's ok.. I've also been told stories about the 4l60 living well behind BB's. But they are pretty well built.. So.. ?? Umm.. I've already got a lill bit beefy'r torsion bars (lift kit) so.. I guess just depends on how much it squats after..

There is nearly exactly 100lb diff between iron small Chevy and big block... not that much as far as weight... room in engine bay will be more restrictive to do headers etc on big block, but you can get them. If you want headers, get them in there before you drop in the 454. Yes, the 4L60 can live there, but if you're going to tow, climb, heavy foot it a stoplights it's not something to count on for lengthy service. Remember, the 454 is an externally balanced engine so you'll need a big block flex plate for it with that 4L60. Get all the little balancing parts or your motor will vibrate badly! You should already have the correct damper on the front of the 454.

    Yes, you'd need a 350 to build the 383.
