    Does this sound about right?

I'm helping my cousin spec out a turbo build for a '95 Mustang/5.3. This car is going to be gutted and light with a powerglide. He has a forged 5.3 and the car and is shooting for mid to low 9's and 8's in the future. Anyway I think I've got some of the turbo parts sorted out but I might be way off so let me know. This first setup is going to be budget minded on the actual turbo.

    ON3 GT4294 turbo
    Turbosmart 52mm BOV
    Turbosmart 45mm Wastegate
    Walbro 400lph
    Siemens 80lb injectors
Mishimoto intercooler (fits the Mustang body)
    FTI lvl2 powerglite and converter

I'm thinking he should use the Hooker LSX cast manifolds and a Victor jr intake. I'm not sure if he's going to change the cam or heads right now but that will probably be done once the chassis is working. Any suggestions? Converter stall RPM? Intake suggestions? Different turbo?

All this sounds good initially, but I can see the pump and injectors being replaced not too long after.
Magnum branded turbo, same as this knock off, pushed a truck here to low 10's, not maxing out the turbo, so 9's would be no problem for the light mustang.
I understand if this is budget, but what about a T6 80mm for 8's?

What kind of upcharge are we looking at? This turbo is right about $500 so going to say $1000 isn't out of the question. This is going to be a race gas trailer car and run on slicks. Also what would be a better option for the fuel system than the 400lph?

The chassis is going to get the full treatment. It will be setup to run 8's legal with a cage too.

Not sure on the cost, but I was thinking of a Turbonetics or Precision, something race proven, large frame, 80mm wheel.
If it's a race car, you know how it goes lol.

400lph, that won't support much, get two, then it's a pita when you're having fueling issues diagnosing pressure loss.
I was thinking Magnafuel or Aeromotive.
I could see a forged 5.3L being pushed making over a 1000hp if it's all lined up right.
    400lph won't support that.
120lb injectors were maxed out on my truck with an a1000 pump, big lines, rails, 70psi fuel pressure.
Just sux to get it all running and forced to go back and rethink, 160's will be enough; running down the truck at 8secs puts a toll on that fuel system.

What you have will do 9's, maybe 8's i don't know lol, any 8 sec setup car/truck has a decent, serious fuel system.

I spoke with my cousin some on this today and he was already planning on twin Aeromotive 340s but if a single A1000 will do the job that would be even better. Are the Edelbrock rails that come with a Victor jr large enough to handle what we're after? We are not going to do this twice just possibly step it up a bit after it's already working. It's much easier to change to a larger turbo once all the plumbing is routed. I was looking at the Borgwarner S400 80mm with a 1.10 a/r for just over $1100 and that might be possible.

I would suggest T6 s480 with 96mm turbine and 1.25 ar. That will support the power you're looking for and with a brake, 2 step and tuning you should be able to spool it at the line. As for fuel an a1000 and 120# should be enough WITH meth. If you're not going to use meth then you'll need more pump and injectors

Everyone focuses on pump and injectors which is great until a certain power level is obtained. When talking about a 1k turbo setup it is very important to address every little thing in between the pump and injectors.

I think because it's a given that if you're running an a1000, then your setup better have the supporting mods like -10 fuel line, regulator and rails.
That stuff just comes along with it.
