what to do with the diff?

So my axle keeps twisting up badly. I need to regear again too, the 4.11s don't cut it, I'm thinking 4.88s because of the 6 speed. So what would you do? New axle full of goodies and 4 link? I have a mustang with a 8.8 I'm about to scrap, be nice to have a good lug pattern for once. Little bit of welding I could make that fit. I've been all over craigslist looking for something and can't find squat. I'd even settle for a 2wd from pre 99 to get a nice lug pattern. Not optimal but better. I have some options and I'd like to get this done by end of next month. Oh, and i have a set of coilovers and was also thinking about a set of ladder bars and ditch the leafs. Could do caltracs but still need gears. Too many options! I'm trying to keep the cost down for the most part. So What would you do?

Go 9" with 35 spline axles. Or if you think you really need something big, then go 14 bolt.

ive ran 488s with the t56 and was a good gear for the 408 i had, now with the turbos im sitting at 410s for gears

i run caltracs with rancho shocks and a police edition tahoe rear sway bar with preload......leaving off vacuum ive pulled best of 1.65 on a 17x7 wheel with a 10" slick

Maybe I'll go the caltracs route. Can't argue with your results. Still gunna have to regear. I don't have a turbo.

Ok, I have one more question, but it's a tough one. Nobody around here knows. If I was thinking, could the spindles off a camaro work on our trucks? Like if you popped the ball joints, and put in a camaro set of spindles in there place? I've worked on 4wds and ball joint size won't matter, things can be replaced or drilled out to custom fit. But I'm curious how close everythingis. I could get my five lug and run some 15 inch weld wheels. Oh, and for the rear, I'm going to ladder bar the back end. C notch it and run my coilovers. Front I'll get the coilovers and remove the torsion bar junk. Anybody have any thoughts on these spindles?

I've just always preferred the look. I don't know. The wheel selection is better and they weight less. I'd rather buy weld draglites then bogarts. Kind of big price difference haha

If you COULD get camaro spindles to work the would they would have to be 67 to 81. 82-92 use strut mount and 93-02 use one thats like 3 feet tall.
You could just have your hubs redrilled to a 5 bolt pattern. I would rather do that than mess with spindles n stuff.

Bogarts are high, weld don't really make anything 16 n up that work for drag racing, so I agree, but if your going to do all the labor n buy parts and so on, may as well spend the money. Just my thought

Well, I'm a mechanic. Going to the junk yard and salvaging parts is easy. Hence the idea. Kinda like a poor mans way of doing what i want. So all the labor is free, and i have the tools to drill things out to fit ball joints or tie-rod ends. You may be right, might be too expensive after everything's is said and done, but it will be different. The idea of drilling the new pattern isn't a bad idea either. I know a machinist, so i think I'll give him a call too. Only problem with that I have drop spindles that require 17s, so lowering lower control arms will be needed. So many ideas. Anyone else got some more ideas? Keep'em coming.
