1996 5.3 5 Speed Speedo and Fuel Wiring??

Hey I have a 1996 truck I swapped a 99 5.3 into. It has a nv3500 out of a 94 for the tranny and the speed sensor is on the tcase. I can't figure out how to get the speedo as fuel gauge to work? All my other gauges work except them. Any help would be appreciated!

On my 1992 which is a 2 wheel drive the vss sensor is on the tranny towards the back. If you do a search on speedometer in this forum you should find some wiring.I have the vss wired into my 5.3 pcm and the output wired into my drac box to control my speedometer. My fuel gauge i never touched so it works fine. Not to sure how the fuel gauge works on a 1996.

You need to wire the VSS on the tailshaft housing of the trans to the PCM. The Green/Black wire of the VSS should to pin 20 on the C-2 (red)connector of the PCM. The Purple/white wire should go to pin 21 of the C-2 connector. Pin number 50,(dark Green/white) of C-2 should go to your speedometer.

According to LT1swap.com, you must add a pin/wire at pin#38 on the C-2 connector. This is used to run '96-'99 truck fuel gauges. I would imagine that this output signal must go to the location where the old PCM supplied the output signal for the guage to work.

On the trucks---The fuel gauge didn't get its info from the PCM until 1998, so it's not a PCM issue. Sometimes when these trucks sit too long (As in: apart for an engine swap) the fuel pump and/or sender go bad.

Jeff, thanks for the correction. I'll keep that in mind should I attempt a swap in those model year trucks.
