I currently have a 93 octane hot tune....and gas prices are killing me!!
I'm just wondering how much power I would loose if I switched to an 87 octane tune for awhile, at least until I can get my financial crap worked out.

I also wondered if I could remove a little more of the Torque Mgmt to compensate for the lost HP..not much, just a little. I plan to soon add a shift kit anyhow and remove the cats....
But my main question is about the octane switch.

I would guess that what you gain in cheaper gas you would loose in mileage. You should stick with what you have.

Believe me I know it hurts to see how high premium is.

Im only getting about 16 mpg right now, thats the same I was getting when I got the tune. I'm wondering if maybe the cats are killing it some...they are stopped up pretty bad I've been told by the dealer.. I just dont want to cut them until I get my rear o2 sensors cut off.

16mpg average? Or freeway only? I get about 14 only city in mine... and I run 93 in that and have two diesel vehicles (as you know it's more spendy than 93).

The cost difference is only $3-4 a fill up. Do the math, you'll see. 20 gal x 20¢...

Yeah, but that crap adds up... $3 here, $3 there, doesn't take long before you're in to double or triple digits. Look at it this way: Say you save $10 a month in gas, in a year, that's $120! I don't know about you, but I sure could find a use for an extra $120, even if it only happens once a year. It's like counting calories or fat grams in food. Cutting only one meal heavy in calories or fat grams doesn't make much of a difference, but reduce your calorie/fat intake often and regularly, and you'll be in a lot better shape.

you will lose about 3/10 in the 1/4, truck feels alittle slugish but not bad, and my milage went up to nearly 500 miles a tank from 424. if you dont race much and its hurting you in the pocket then i say go for it, but this is just my opionion.

You've just got to ask yourself, "Do I want or need to haul more ass or save more gas?" However you answer that question is how you should go with your tune.
