i've had a 2011 6.2 gmc for a while now--- about 20k on it. it has the max towing package.
last year i traded my 2009 4 door 5.3 speed for it. it was a nice truck, just gutless. the 6.2 is, well, not gutless anywhere, at any time!
(keep in mind all mpg's posted are using canadian gallons)
the very best my 5.3 ever did was 22 hwy. mostly it got 20, sometimes 21. it had the 3:42 gears. any city driving and it would be down to 18 average pretty quickly.
i thought the 6.2 would get around 18 hwy, which i could live with to have all that power. but nope--- not even close! it got 20-21 brand new on the first road trip!
was very happy with that. but now that it's broken in, it is consistantly getting 21-23 mpg every time i drive it. very very happy! you have to hit some poor conditions to get it down to 19-20, which only happened once because of a storm. don't get me wrong, it takes fuel to make power, and if you use the power it sure takes fuel. but treat it nice and no word of a lie this thing is consistantly better on fuel than my 09 5.3 was!
no v6 turbo, no AFM, just a straight up old fashioned v8 getting the job done!
