Whats easier -changing rod bearings while engine is still in truck --

2000 2500 4x4 silverado with 6.0 & 180,000 miles , should i pull the engine or try to change rod bearings while still in the truck ? i hear a slight knock when i start it in the morning -it goes away after it warms up,other than that it runs strong and doesn't smoke ,leak or use oil ...........any help is appreciated

Prolly just piston slap man. Don't think that a rod bearing change is needed. And if so I would remove the engine

could just have a lifter that has to pump up...mine old 5.3 used to do it bad

Most likely not a rod and if you wanna anyway, both ways suck. I'd prolly pull it because of other issues you might find along the way. You'll have to pull the front axle to get the pan off.

I agree that it is not a rod. However, if you ever have to do rod bearings. It is mush easier with the motor out then in the truck. I tried it and pulled the motor to make it easier.

yep, completely agree with what already been said. Just get used to the cold start piston slap, it's normal.

I just got done doing rod bearinngs and katech bolts, along with a bunch of other things on a rebuild, and no way I'd bother with it in
the truck! Just dropping the pan alone would be a pain!
