Can't speak for the 5.3 but I ran 14psi on my 4.8L with this turbo. Ran a 4L60 with 20s on the truck. Made 460rwhp and 520rwtq with no problems. Had a stock cam in it too FYI
What intercooler do you use? Increased injectors?
I used the STS intercooler and 43lbs injectors.
