    5.3 tune options.

Howdy, I've been searching but trying to learn more about options for my next project. Please remember daily driver...

I recently bought a '00 Silverado, Ex cab/swb, 2wd 5.3, 3.73 G80. It's got over 200K miles, has EGR, bad cold piston slap, burns oil and has exhaust manifold bolts broken off in the head from previous owner (exhaust leaks) and is getting catalist inneficiency codes along with knock circuit codes (ohming out at ~500ohm and ~1000 ohms, not the 100 it should)

I traded a friend a set of 317 heads for a better complete (w in/ex manifolds 90K mile LM7 (non EGR) engine with ~185 compression across all cylinders. (60 day warantee too) I've been reading and looking to swap in my 1721 cam from the '03 6.0 I have (dissasembled parts motor only) as that is a common simple upgrade as I have read.

I believe a mail order tune can delete EGR and rear 02's. Would deleting the rear 02's negate the inefficiency codes I am getting? I believe I should keep the cats as my exhaust doesnt smell but will need a cat back system. (local person selling a Flowmaster American Thunder cat back dual system for 250obo I may pick up.

New knock sensors are good and overall motor is pretty clean. I am trying not to turn this into a project truck.. Any ideas or input before yankin out the old and droppin in the new? Trans has been good but plannin on doin a fluid exchange/filter service (knock on wood)

    thanks in advance
    Steve

A mail in tune would suit you just fine since you are not looking to really hop up the truck or do anything fancy with it. Just make sure when you submit your information to whichever tuner you decide, you let them know EXACTLY what you want and are looking for.

Once you replace the front 02s and then get a tune to delete the rears, you shouldnt have any issues.

well, when watching the counts on the front 02's on our Mac Mentor's Datastream they are bouncing all over as they should be, do I still need to replace them?

    btw, thanks for the reply!

I replaced mine at 150k and they weren't 'bad'...gas mileage shot up like 1.5mpg....it's worth doing. They are like 50 a piece for our trucks.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum
