    Wtfan18, you still out there?

If so, did you personally do the 5.3 swap in your 98 RCSB. Reason being, I've got some extra money this semester and I'm seriously pondering swapping a 5.3 or 6.0 into my 97. I'm up in Castine at MMA, so I don't have the space, tools, or know-how to do the swap by myself... *hint hint* *cough cough* (I supply food, beer, or maybe we can work out a deal).

Kyle sold his OBS truck. He got a newer NBS RST I believe. But I am sure he could help you with the swap--even if we can't.

Yeah, I saw his thread on his new RST, so I figured he sold his OBS. I'm really wanting to get this swap done, I'm in need of powa!

On a similar note, I found an 00 5.3 for the potential swap: 00 Chevy Silverado GMC Sierra 5.3 Engine 83K W/ Video : eBay Motors (item 350277503364 end time Feb-08-10 11:25:25 PST) what do you guys think?

And - am I correct in assuming my truck has the return style fuel rails? If I have the returnless setup, that means I'd need to get a new filter, lines, etc right?

The swap should be too bad since there are enough write-ups here and on others sites.

As for the motor--$600 is fair for a motor with those miles and a complete harness.

Look for the fuel lines on yours. Since your truck is 4WD, you should be able to look under the truck and look at the fuel lines from the tank to the motor. How many lines you see?

If you ARE returnless, I would convert the fuel system on that 5.3L to returnless. The 5.3L motor in a NBS truck is returnless from 04-07 Classic.

On another note, my buddy runs a body shop and has an 08 GMC extended cab 2wd. It's got a salvage title but has been fixed, it was a light rollover. Leather interior, 5.3... he said he sell it to me for 13,000... good deal you guys think?

hey man, yeah im still on here an kicking, and tyler is right i got rid of my OBS for basically what id call my dream truck. took a huge loss on all i had invested but it was time for something new. its been a couple years since i did my swap but im sure i would remember most of it, the only shady parts is the wiring not sure i would remember it all but nelson's harness works great. but yes i did all the work myself and it still cost me a fortune but i tell you what that OBS is well known in my area for being a pretty nasty truck haha so im proud to say i built it even if i dont own it. i had about 9 grand into the swap when i was done but i was extremely meticulous and built it over a year and a half..The RST 6.0 is going to be much faster than the OBS when its done.

$13k for an 08 with super low miles is a deal, but its a deal because it has a Salvage Title. It would be a good purchase if you intended to keep it for a really long time--like 6-8 years or so. That way you would get the most value out of the truck and then sell it for $4k-$5k when you are done with it.

Yeah, I don't doubt you had a ton of money and time into that truck, that was definitely one of my favorite OBS's around. Can't blame you for upgrading to the RST though, I love the interior of those trucks, good luck with the build! I'm sure if I do end up doing mine, I'll have a bunch of questions to ask.
