Thread: LQ9 Cam?

    Lightbulb LQ9 Cam?

I have a stock lq9 with 317 heads and wondering what would be a good cam to run. was gonna put the motor in my tahoe but i sold it. so now its going in my mustang. so to sum it all up LQ9 with a ls6 intake and a t56 with a 4.10 gear. what would be a good cam to run without fly cutting the pistons. cars not a daily driver. wanna keep the 317 heads cause i have the complete ls6 intake already and i don't wanna get new heads at this time.

For a 3600# car with a stick, gears, 10:1 compression, and not a DD, I would suggest something similar to Comp's XR281HR.

    228/230 0.571/0.573 112

It will have a fairly nasty idle and make good power from 3000 RPM on. You'll need to upgrade the valve springs and pushrods, and headers are highly recommended.

No, you can easily go much bigger. I'd look for something more in the ballpark of 232/234 .595/.595 112
