    what do you think

so i bought my truck in febuary, i get it home and the belt starts sqeaking, so i changed the belt and it stopped, well since i changed the belt i prolly put around 3000 miles on it, it started slowly sqeaking again so we had some belt dressing so i sprayed it on there and it made it ten times worse and now it wont stop, im bout to go buy another belt but i was gonna see if yall might think it might be a pully which i cannot notice any kind of vibration or anything coming from the pullys or could it just be the belt, i dunno figured id get some suggestions

Did you buy it at a used car dealer that took it to a detail shop that pressure washed the engine bay? Cuz just about every time, the pressure washer gets in the bearings for some of the pulleys and dries them out and gets em all rusty

pull off belt, spin each pulley individually...

check belt tensioner, most newer vehicles don't squeal/squeak unless they get wet.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

i did buy it used but from an actual chevy dealership but it wouldnt surprise me if that did happen, but it quit once i put the new belt on the first time then it started again and i tried to put a little belt dressing and it went all to hell after that, i cant see any kind of signs on the pullies but that could be very misleading, does anybody have any good ideas if i went ahead and replaced all the pullies and the belt, is there any pully better than another

I work at a dealer, and I bought my '05 silverado used from here, and the detail shop pressure washed the engine bay and put that stupid tire dressing on everything. It squeeked, so I took the belt off and spun the pullies, it was the tensioner. Replaced it, then the noise came back, took off the belt again and spun the pullies. It was the alternator, then the squeek came back again, it was literaly one pulley after another. Did this pulley noise test untill all the pullies including ac belt tensioner and both belts were changed. That's what was my case, and it was very annoying. Needless to say, I don't like pressure washers on engines.

so i happen to still have my old belt from when it started doing this in the first place, so i took the belt off checked all the pullys, the alternator has a slight squeak but only in the opposite direction that the belt turns, well it stopped sqeaking after i put the old belt back on, i know the belt may have tightened back up but it dont have any of the belt dressing on it either, i may just replace all the pullies and the belt and hope to be done with it

No need to replace all the pulleys. The two pulleys I would look at replacing are the tensioner and idler pulley. Those tend to cause a majority of your squeak problems and go before the others.

me and my buddy were listening closely to it, we actually think its my alternator but its a light sqeak, not the loud one i had before, so ill prolly start with the idler and tensioner pully first and go from there, thanks for all the help guys
