    Lifters question

So i'm finally going to be installing a cam here in the next 2 weeks. Im ordering the springs, pushrods, and ls7 sprocket today. I've got a 5.3l with the DOD system in it and I keep getting mixed reports about the lifters in it. Some say they are weak and will break and some say they are good. I would prefer not to pull the heads if I don't have to but if they are no good I need to know. Does anyone know for sure?

Chris, it kind of depends on how big of a cam you are gunna go with, what type of cam lobe design, and how stiff of valve springs you are gunna use.

It is known that the DOD lifters ARE weaker when used with Comp's XE-R and LS-K lobes due to their steep ramp rates. Also, anything over .580 lift will put a strain on them. What is the cam size you wanna go with?

The Cadillac lifters (from the LSA, or whatever it's called) are supposedly a little better than the LS7 lifters. Cheaper too

I believe there are the LS7 lifters which are good up to 7k rpm and there are Caddy racing lifters that are good up to 8k rpm. The racing lifters are more expensive.

Doubt my 5.3 needs to go any higher than 7000. LS7's should be fine.

Can they reduce performance when you are running stockers? My mechanic told me today that I need to replace my stock ones for high performance lifters ($250-300) because they might be stealing 30-40 hp.. Honestly I don't think so but what do you all think??

This is a topic based solely on NNBS lifters. Make a new topic please.

Also, I'd just like to point out from your previous posts... your mechanic is a complete fool.

almost goign to garrenty this statement. he is used to old school dinosaur motors and how the ABCs of them work.

you dont need to upgrade lifters unless youres are noisey
