    Question 89 k1500 4.3V-6 to newer 5.3 V-8

It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I was wondering what parts other than a 4.8 flywheel would be needed to convert a 1989 4.3V-6 5-speed K1500 to a 99 or newer 5.3 V-8? I know that I will need the V-8 frame mounts for a 89 V-8 and also that I will need the standard V-8 to newer V-8 adapter, but what other things will I need? Thank you for your time and help with this.

I'd like to do a 5.0 tbi to 6.0 swap on my old 5spd 4wd. What clutch would you use?

I would think that it would be the same flywheel and clutch setup from the 4.8 the only differance may be the throwout bearing and the pilot bushing, and maybe the forkarm? With a 6.0 or even a mild 5.3 I would go with a clutch and pressure plate that was something other than stock and hope the stock 5-speed holds.

I've got the good old getrag 5 spd. I doubt it will last long behind a real engine if beat on.

Yea same here on the getrag 5 and it is getting full rebuild as soon as the old motor gets pulled to start this swap. So this is my idea of what to use so I can retain the original tranny, 4.8 flywheel on a 5.3 and all the stock clutch parts off of the stock getrag. Mind you the clutch components will be replaced with all new parts of either stock or aftermarket parts. So if anyone has any opnions or comments on wether or not this will work let me know. Thanks This is the truck this willl be goin in as this is my pride and joy. 043.jpg picture by C-K-4LIFE - Photobucket

    my truck's a 99 NBS, but i'm doing a similar swap

i'm using an 01 5.3 engine, 01 4.8 flywheel, and a 99 (instead of 01 because of the hydraulic line) 4.8 clutch kit from Clutch City Online
i checked with a few stealerships, and the 99 5.3/5spd trucks used the same flywheels & clutch kits as the 4.8/5spd, so i reckon it'll hold. i'm still waiting on a new PCM, so i ain't been able to try it all out yet, but everything bolted up just fine. keep in mind, mine's the newer style NV3500, but i'd reckon, yours should still bolt up

It's the same transmission, keep in mind the 4.3 is still old style SBC instead of LSX, so the NV3500 in my '06 will be the same as the one in your '89. Physically anyway there may or may not be differences in ratios and what not. I know S10's got different ratios, and the NV3500's Dodge used seem to be holding a lot more power (I'm still looking into whether or not there interchangeable with a simple bellhousing swap)

although his transmission & ours are interchangeable, ours are actually a little different than his. the newer ones (93+) have a single shift rail (instead of 4) and different input shaft bearing arangements

the fullsize GM transmissions have the same ratios across the board

Dodge transmissions will not swap with GM models - i actually spoke with a bunch of people including the manufacturers about this last year (i wanted to get a dodge NV3500HD for my 5.3 swap). the bellhousing & transmission case are one piece & the different makes have different bolt patterns. they also use different input shaft lengths, spline counts, and pilot sizes. the output shafts also have different spline counts.

you could swap s10 & FSC transmissions, but since the s10 tailshafts are longer, you'll have to move the crossmember and get a new driveshaft
