    Thinkin about a new cam....

So I'm now in the same boat as most of the N/A guys and decided that another cam swap is in the near future. I currently have the hotcam and it's a great budget cam, but I'm not getting the power that I'm looking for. I just put in a 3000 stall, so I need something that can work with that. I'm thinking TSP220 mainly because of the higher lift and tyler has that cam and has good luck with it. I've been looking aroudn on futral motorsports page also and they have a lot of good sounding cams Dur/Lift wise. What's my ideal duration and lift with this converter? Thanks for any input you can give.

    V- I got PS Lt's and factory 3:73's.

I like it, I mean it sounds great and pulls good from 3000 on up, but I keep reading of guys getting 75 whp with 228's and cams in that area, just kinda feel like I'm missing out on the fun haha.

75 hp to the ground from a relatively conservative cam is pretty nice, or are you referring to other mods also?

Mike--SO many things to consider. For the most part, you have the supporting mods to do a cam like mine or even slightly larger--the 228R like you have mentioned. In all honesty, you could get away with the 228R and the 3000 stall only because you have a lighter weight RCSB. Some might say that is not enough converter, but meh--whatever.

I think the reason why my cam works great for me is the 4 degrees of advanced timing I had ground into it. Having this makes the power come in slightly sooner. Your truck with the supporting mods could handle a 228/228 .588/.588 112+3 LSA. That would be a freakin sweet cam!!! Make sure to use the XER lobes if you run Comp 918 springs. That cam profile is pretty steep, but nothing like the XFI or LSK lobes...

Funny you say that tyler...I've been in love with the 228R ever since I saw it in scotts truck haha. I'll give comp a call tomorrow and texas speed and see what they quote for a custom grind.

I wish the hotcam gave me 75 whp...haha, I've read where they give about 40-45, that's why I'm wanting to step it up to something bigger. My truck pulls pretty hard up to 6200 (shift point) and it'll chirp second, but I feel like I'm losing out on the bigger power other's are making because of the low lift this cam has. I'd say in total with all my mods I've probably added around 70 to it, but I know these trucks are capable of way more!
