You would not need a retune, but a retune will get the most out of the cam.

    5.3, E-fans, LPP longtubes w/offroad Y, Dual Magnaflow, K&N Cold Air, 160 thermo, Voodoo 212/218 .531/.531 113 cam, Nelson Tune, 4:11, Built 4L65E, TrailBlazer converter. SOLD

If you dont already have a tune then get one. a Nelson 93 tune will give you more HP than the LS1 cam and its alot easier to install...

The early LS1 cam is the more aggressive of the two versions used. It was used from 1998 through 2000. It has 12º more intake duration than your 5.3 cam. Even though your engine will run OK w/o a tune, there's still a risk of running lean at WOT. If it were me, I would get the tune.

Free or not, it's not worth the effort involved. I mean it's not free, gaskets crank bolt, coolant etc. Still gonna cost some money so why not make it worth it.
