    Minor Problems

The Truck has 37500 miles on it -- year 2002.
1st, the original battery drops the voltage down to 12.2 after setting a couple days so I put in a new Red Top Optima battery. Their web sit has a $25 rebate going on now.

2nd, My parking brakes do not hold. The pedal goes to the floor like it all ways has but does not stop the truck from rolling. It has the disc plus drum type rear brakes.
    The GM service manual reads.
"Park Brake Lever Adjustment--verify that the park brake shoes are sdjusted to provide a clearance of .026".
Verify that the self adjuster lock out pin has been removed.
Fully apply and release the park lever 3 times "

I can not see the lockout pin from the outside--What do I have to do?

3rd, The front right axle seal is leaking [4WD].
It has synthetic grease that is topped off to the top of the fill hole, [1/2 inch higher than the book says is full].
The book says to remove the "halfshaft Assembly " and shows the steering knuckle removed out of the ball joints. Is that necessary or is it just removed in the picture?
All so it says to replace the bearing-- Is it a " sealed bearing" that would be leaking all so?

I might wait until the grease level is 1/2" below the fill hole and see if it stops leaking. [ odds are slim of that happening !!]

Thanks in advance of all your helpful and not so helpful comments

That type PARK brake will never stop the vehicle from moving but it can hold it. Texas only requires it to hold against 1200 RPM.

You don't have to pull the knuckle or replace either the hub bearing or the outer axle bearing. You do however have to pull the whole RH stub housing, etc. off the diff to get the inner axle shaft out to replace the seal. The outer CV axle unbolts from the inner, then there are 5 bolts from the tube to the diff housing. Two more nuts have to come off on the RH side that hold the tube to the frame. You'll have to reassemble all the axle lock application parts with grease to hold the washers in place to put the stub housing back on without messing up the actuator fork. You need some of the red anaerobic sealer from the dealer.

You got that right. I like to use it when parking on a hill. Set park brake 1st, then put it in park. When starting up --out of park then release the parking brake. That keeps the load off of the parking brake pawl in the trany.

But some dummy has driven short distance with the park brake on [ and a strange dinging sound??? ]maybe thats why no more worky!

Thanks GasGuzzler looks like time to get some seals &
    red anaerobic sealer.
