    Enlighten me

I am somewhat of a newb to 4X4 systems etc. so don't laugh too much. But one of my best friends (who knows his 4x4's) specifically said I do not have a straight axle in the front of my 03 GC WJ. Mind you he has not even crawled under the truck yet to look. Here is a pinout of my front Dana 30 axle. can someone tell me if this axle below is a straight axle.

    Straight Axle, Definately.

If it bolts up using leafs or a 4-link then it is. Anything that isn't IFS is a solid axle.

He might be saying it is not due to the fact that the passenger side is a 2 piece axle and uses the vacum actuator and a slide collar to connect the two.

His whole argument was that I told him it looks like there are spindles that hold the rotors and the steering knuckle. Thats when he was like "Oh well its IFS if it has spindles up front"

Here is another picture with the steering knuckles.

    Nope, that's a solid axle.

All solid axles have spindles and knuckles. Spindle might be the wheel bearing assembly in your case though.

If it's a Dana of anykind, its gonna be a solid. Don't think dana makes any kind of IFS equipment what so ever.

Good.. Now onto my next issue. When I turn it seems there is a noise that is VERY similar to my wheel rubbing the plastic wheel well underneath. It does it quite a bit under heavy turning, like the wheel almost has to be far left or far right. Any ideas?

    Is there actual wear marks?

Do you have CV's or u-joints on your front axle shafts?

AWD? or is it a 4wd/2wd model?

    Wheel bearings? Growl under stress.

I can see a LITTLE bit of marks on some of the plastic that indicate it might be rubbing, but sometimes I don't get into a FULL turn before the noise starts. AWD Quadra-Drive NV247 transfer Case. As far as the CV-Ujoint, IDK I would need to look. It only makes the noise turning hard.

I was thinking the CVs as well. That's another thing my buddy said that I don't have a straight axle. He was like if you have the CV joints then you don't have a straight axle. IDK this whole argument between us was alcohol fueled anyway so who knows haha
