hey buddies, I have a question for you guys.. how can you tell if a 6.0L engine is a Lq4 or Lq9 by just looking at them from the outside? the casting on the Lq4's heads are 317's right? might be wrong.. that's why I'm asking.. in case I'm right, what does the Lq9's heads say? or is the another way to tell??

so, if they both have those heads, is there another way to tell one from the other?

take the heads off....thats the only way i know...did the truck come with that motor?...if so check the vin
only way to really tell is to pull the heads like mentioned above or use a scope to look through the spark plug hole at the top of the piston...If its flat its a LQ9, dished its a LQ4.

So what's better the dished or the flat
Airaid, alpine double din,
flat is better for NA builds and Dished is better for FI applications.
lq4's have lower compression which is better for fi like a turbo.
lq9 has higher compression but also comes with like 20 more hp stock.
