Assume the car passes emissions without the cats. Can the sinffers detect the absence of the cats by cheking for other chemical content?

I thought if you passed emissions then your set , i haven't heard of additional equipment they use if you pass , not for sure,

they don't do that shit in tx , at least not yet.

    good luck,

From my understanding of it (keep in mind we have none of this here), but anyways, it detects the carbon monoxide in the exhuast. Which a cat is suppose to cut that down considerably. Also it can detect the amount of exhuast that is flowing and if it too much, then you need an exhuast that isn't as free flowing.

Since you live in the "ass rape" state of VA (got that name in the import crowd b/c they hound honda's and other imports constantly).. i'm sure they are going to be anal with you.

I know they use to look under the car to make sure the cat's were in place. I don't know now because I don't have to get it pass yet. The county just south of me does so I know it is coming. I removed the guts from my cats many years ago to keep the ext. open. Was able to get it passed but have to detune the motor. I think the only way they will know if you have them on is if you do not pass or they look. If the gases pass though are ok then the machine will never know. My $.02 worth or thinking. The machine smells gases and that it.

Thanks for the reply. Living in the "ass rape state" sucks because of this bullshit. I hear it's possible to get an LS1 to pass emmissions w/o the cats without sacrificing HP. Gutting the cats causes turbulance so I wonder if it's possible to gut them and put pipe through them. I am not sure if they do a visual here. What's the word on the ricer boards?

Keep in mind the hotter your engine runs, the cleaner it burns, that's why all the cars nowa days, run like 220deg.

just a thought, it might help you pass,

Good point. I will plan on blocking the radiator when I get the test. Hopefully I will have the exhaust completed in the next few weeks. The jury is still deliberating the fate of the cats.
