Thread: Another rear end down. What to do?

Another rear end down. What to do?

This is my second dead rear end. This one lasted about 3 years. It was not an explosion like the last one.
Should I up grade to a different size rear end?
What rear end is in the SS or VHO?
I am also looking at the gear ratio with the turbo the truck.
    Should I go to a 4.10 ratio?
I am also about to convert from 4wd to awd and a member here has a 4.10 gear front diff with 14k miles that I need to make my truck awd.
Please give me your thoughts on this matter.

if your awd the diffs wont take the hit as much as 2wd would. 410s would work well on and off boost.

just install a good carrier and call it a day.

That sure sounds to be the easiest. I tell you I hate calling salvage yards asking for parts. Sometimes I feel like I am at Mcdonalds asking for a denali front diff and axle tube. Looks like I will be 4.10 gears soon.

I agree, 4:10s would be a good upgrade!

Sounds good but I'd do what I told you when you PM'd me....then again you need 4.10's in the front.

Send me your old 3.73 front and I'll pay shipping.

I am still thinking about a 14 bolt. I have found one for a reasonable price but it has drum brakes. I wonder if my discs will swap over. Anyone know?
The gears were motive gears. Are they any good? Should I just get better gears. I really don't ever want to have to do this again. I want to do it right this time.

Well I flipped a coin due do to my indisiciveness. I am just gonna redo that rear and put 4.10s in it. Oh well lots cheaper that way. I will be mad at myself it it blows again.
