Solid Axle Swap 99 and Up Silvy

Ok, so it will be a slow process but it starts now.

Solid Axle swapping the 1999 Silverado

There is a lot that needs to be researched and looked at before you start. There is a lists of things that will and will not work. I will try my best to document this through pictures and write up.

I will be doing a leaf sprung swap.

Brackets: Off-Road Direct - Lift Kit and Custom Suspension System Specialists
    Springs: 73-87 1/2 ton Chevy

*Brackets give 3'' of lift, so I will be using 4'' springs for a total of 7'' of lift*

    Axles: Dana 44 HD Front w/4.10 from a 1976 F250 8 bolt
    Dana 60 Rear w/4.10 from 1976 F250 8 bolt

*Reason for Ford axles is the need of a drivers side drop*

Yes, need gone over and cleaned.

    Transfercase: NP241 from a 1989-1998 k1500 with a 60E manual 4x4

*This transfercase is needed for the fact that it has a fixed yoke for the front drive shaft along with a electronic VSS and does not have auto trac. The transfer case is manual engagement so fabing will need to be done and the VSS wires will need to be splice to the new sensor*

Steering: Crossover Steering Required! Kits available or you can attempt to make.

    * I will be purchasing the pitman arm, but using the drag link from a K-5 Blazer. Friend is a machinist so the arm for the right knuckle will be made.*

    Brake lines: Extended Lines Required!!

    *Purchasing locally*

**Again, this is just the start, I will gather and post as much info as I can throughout. Today 5/1/2009, the transfercase will be installed and wired**

Ok, NP241 is swapped out. (Total Time = 2 Hours doing byself and beer breaking)

GM (NP) 246 uses a stud style mount to adapter. The NP 241 uses bolts thru the adapter into the transfer case. Studs may be able to be removed, but i already had the factory bolts and used them.

To wire up the speedo, you need to use the VSS on the 241 and wire it into the trucks speedo wires (purple and green). You can either buy the pigtail for the NP241 which costs $4x.xx and wire it in or, solder 2 wires to the 241's VSS and splice it to the purple and green wires. Rather than make a unnecesary purchase, i soldered 2 wires and siliconed connections and it worked perfectly fine.

Now, for the SERVICE 4X4 light, i read to remove a ''hard disk'' sized computer that controls the 4x4. Thought I found it, unplugged it and truck would not start. Plugged back in and removed the fuse for the 4x4 instead. No light and the truck drives fine.

Working on fabing a shifter for the mechanical case. Will wire in indicator lights for hi/low ranges using the position switch on the t-case.

Will research this (4x4 comp) farther. Pics to come monday (5/4) for differences and install tho they are not the best quality.

Truck should start if you unplugged the real TCCM. Maybe you unplugged the BCM....?
