    Transfer case in 06 2500hd

My 06 hd 6.0 has some type of issue with the transfer case I guess.. That's where the sound is coming from when I swith to r from d or vise versa it has a bad clunk. And I grabbed the driveshaft and it has slack in it but the u-joints looked tight? And also when I let off the gas about 3 outta 6 times it makes a loud grinding noise & at low speeds there is a clunk clunk clunk (not that loud)

They always make noise changing ranges. What shifts are making noise and under what conditions are you shifting it? Which case do you have? NP1? Are there any operational problems or complaints other than noise? Does the noise just "happen" then stop after the shift is complete? Does it ever fail to shift ranges?

yes it wouldn't shift into 4-low. & that just started and the grinding noise isn't normal it's so loud.. & the clunk at low speeds sounds like something broke or is going bad.. The t-case oil looks pretty dirty

So engine running trans in N and on a very very slight roll it won't go in 4LO? That's the best way to get 4LO in any of these cases. Does it have electric shift or manual shift? You don't wanna try LO while sitting still or moving more than 1/2 MPH. 2HI to 4HI and vice versa is OK at 70 MPH unless you make it a frequent habit.

yes well now it will go in 4 low but earlier it didn't want to about 4 tries and it finally goes it's electric but whatever that is has to have something to do with the clunking at low speeds and grinding when letting off the pedal?
