I hear you get better gas mileage as well as a cleaner burn, which would make sense.. I work in the field as well and it helps keep the product in the tanks better as well.

Gimmick. Listen to the commercial...it says it cleans deposits and builds a protective layer against future carbon build up.

It's a real commercial with a real fake selling point to hock gas. Just like Chevron's "techroline"....it's something that's in all gas.

It's real, but this trend by advertisers toward picking out an element that is in one of the ingredients in their product is getting boring. I first noticed it when all of a sudden every thing had titanium in it. It got to the point that even golf balls had titanium. Well, yeah, titanium dioxide, the naturally occurring stuff that is used to make stuff, from paint to golf balls, white.
Or titanium drill bits. Of course they are made of steel, and of course that yellow coating is not titanium, but titanium nitride. Remember when aluminum ingestion was thought to be a contributor to Alzheimer's disease? I know people that changed deodorants to a brand that didn't have aluminum it it. Of course it isn't aluminum, it is aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex, or other similar aluminum compound. Saying that there is aluminum in there is like saying your spark plugs are made out of aluminum, because the ceramic insulator is made out of aluminum oxide.
Calling any of these compounds by the one familiar word in their name that the advertiser picks out is absolutely, scientifically, truthfully, no different than saying that a glass of milk is oxygen-enriched. That is what the advertiser that works for Shell would say, because milk has water in it, and everybody knows that water is one-third oxygen, molecularly speaking.
