im considering doing a 6.0 drop in. this would become my project for the time being and i plan on going pretty much all-out, but im gonna take my time with it.

lq4 has lower compression then the lq9, better for a turbo, which you need to do haha

are their certain years that were the lq's or were they mixed?

Whatever you do--don't buy a 99 or 2000 6.0L. Only 2001 and up LQ4s. Any year LQ9 is good.
