    rearend gears

i have 3.23s in my rcsb and was thinking about going up to the 3.42s, would this hold up to FI and still be decent going down the highway? and would i be better off finding a newer GM rearend that already has the 3.42 and a lsd? or just buying the gears?

Gears and install kit no labor = rnd $300

Gears and istall kit plus labor = $800 - 1K

Rearend from junkyard = $500-$800 usually from my experience with my 2000 dodge ram.

3.42s are what my truck have. Cruise about 70 rpm are just about 2k. So highway not a problem, and I think its pretty quick. I'm close to 90 before going to 4th, been a while since I've done it, so not too sure.

Only one I know of is g80, and hear its trash, and pretty much a ticking bomb. Go tru-trac or something similar, with a gear kit. Maybe more but hey why go cheap. FI like you are, a g80 I would think would go pretty quick.

    I'm running a 29" tire, with 3.42s, and it works out 3.54.

yea i do a lot of highway but its a good DD so im not sure about going 3.73s so thats why im thinking the 3.42s might be a little better DD wise and also a little more performance

I would go 3.42s and not think about it man. Mine is a decent DD with 4.10s. I am looking forward after I go FI and dropping back to around 3.73 or 3.42s should get better gas mileage. I get around 20 on the highway now.
