You answered your own question.......Any LS motor has more potential per $ spent over the conventional SBC.

saw something that said the vortec had like 235 hp and a ls 5.3 has like 285
just wonderin how close that was to real #
even the LT1 doesnt compare to the 5.3

Vortec 350 was nothing but a 1950's 350 chevy small block.
They can be built DIRT cheap. Also not the greatest of engines.
There are MANY difference beyond hp that make the 5.3 Gen III engine

i like my old carb sbc..but i wanna go furl injected..guess ill either get a 4.8, 5.3, 6.0
But in the SBC defense, you can build one of those motor for way less and still have a lot of hp. You can build a chevy 350 with 2000k and it will be a very bad ass motor, you cant build a ls motor with 2000 bucks.
Im talking about 383 stroker by the way.

a traditional sbc will make more hp per dollar. both are pretty good bang for the buck though. and stock to stock yea, 5.3 should be more powerfull, but the 350 wouldn't be too far off on torque.
