    Rear end fun

Ok so im haulin sliding around a curve in a blaze of tire spinning glory when my left wheel hit a drain grate then a huge pop follow by smaller pops so i stop shook it off went to leave only to get another huge pop from the rear end and pops when i take a turn...so i get home jack it up in park and the wheels just spin and the drive shaft doesnt move lol havent torn into it yet but i probably ate my ring and pinion or locker which is more likely or both? and who makes the best gears and locker to replace it with? And does anyone know any good shops around south houston?

Yeah. Well bro seriously... You probably took out your carrier. Hense the multiple pops. I talked to the guy that is installing my new rear end (yes I blew mine up last week) Apparently in a posi unit with spider gears when you go around something sideways the tires are TRYING to spin a two different speeds. The posi is doing its job in the mean time by keeping them going the same speed. Which in time will put stress cracks in the gears and one day... BANG. Kinda like a time bomb. I am going back with a Eaton posi with richmond gears myself....

Sounds exactly like what happened to mine. More than likely your spider gears no longer have teeth. When you tear it open let us know exactly what it is. If it is your spideys be sure you take out your axles and run a rag through the housings to get all the broken metal teeth out or you'll eventually blow your axle seals like I did.. Not a fun task, but it gives you a reason to buy a locker
