    Maybe....Rear end for '92 GMC 1/2 ton...

A good buddy of mine at work thinks his rear end is clunking. Just wanted to see if anyone here might have anything laying around that might work. Did the '92's have the G80?

Yep. I have a stock 98 10 bolt with 3:42's. I'll sell it very cheap.

G80 has been the RPO for limited slip since the beginning of time..LOL. Not sure what design is in a 92 but I think it's the gov loc like the later 8.6's (even though it's an 8.5''). Some had Auburn cone-types though (8.5'' Caprice/Impala/cop car come to mind).

have him pull the drive shaft and grease the splines. See if that helps before tearing into the rear end.

Can you PM me a price Ricky?

Thanks Foggy - I'll have him try that first. Have you dealt with that before?

Polishing and lubing the slip yoke helps with the start/stop honk/clunk but clunking around corners or under a lock situation is a bad sign.

Yeah he said it's just happening from stops, when accelerating, letting off the brakes, etc.

    So it looks like:

Grease the yoke splines with recommended synthetic GM product (Nathan...?).

The retaining nut has to be replaced - correct?

Does the rear seal have to be replaced?

We're talking about the front slip yoke at the trans....or at least I was. The best lube is the slimey green crap you put in CV joints but high temp synth bearing grease works as well. Polsih the yoke with emery cloth and lube the splines inside the front yoke.

All that is for the honking/clunking during starts and stops.
