    I have a 05 chevy with a 4.8 what would it take to put in a 8.1L

    That would be tough. The 8100 was available in 2500HD and above because it requires either an Allison or the 6-speed manual. The Allison required the 2" OEM body lift that makes a major part of the difference between a 2500 and a 2500HD. I'm sure other GM transmissions mount to the 8100 so it may not be as hard as it sounds. Why do that? The 8100 is not a real power house although it makes good torque. I will make the truck very nose heavy and probably will not provide the performance gain you seek. There is also limited off the shelf performance parts for the 8100.

    the 8.1 is not a LS based motor so there are not many mods you would be better of going 6.0 they can make more power anyways

    Or even getting a 454 stroker from Texas-Speed, if he's got his heart set on cubes.

    funny thing is isnt the 6.0 about rated the same hp and torque as the 8.1 from the factory, i know the 6.0 is like 345/385ish

    LQ9 = 345/380 hp/ftlbs 8.1=340/455 hp/ftlbs

    There was that truck on TRUCKSTV that did the 8.1 swap kinda. The guy took two trucks, converted them into one. One was a half ton the other was a 2500 with the 8.1. Would be awesome if the 8.1 was ls based
