On occassion I have a problem with my tranny jumping out of first and it make a terrible noise, I talked to one other person and he said his did the same thing. Does anyone know the problem or fix for this? The car is a 99 model with 45k miles one it and it has done it since I got it when it had 29k miles.

i cant remeber what its is thats wrong on yours. I know what it is though all of my buddys with f bodys have had the same problem. ill get ahold of them and get back to you.

is it skip shift?

no 6 speeds are real common for doing it. Ive never heard of anyone having a problem with 1st gear but ive seen tons of 3rd and 4th gears

I have a 6 speed in my truck out of an 00 Trans Am and I have no problems with it like I do my Vette. I am going to post in some other forums and see what I can find out.

Your snychros are shot. It was happening in mine and when I took it in, they replaced the synchros and the problem hasn't been back yet. If you haven't done it already, get yourself a short throw shifter. It will help save your synchros.
