    Cam Swap

I am sure this is asked all the time but i was wondering what cam you guys would recomened for a daily driving truck. I just want a little bit more power but dont what to hurt my gas milage. Its not for racing at tracks just driving around town and towing a little. Or should i even do one on this truck and just wait until i can get a project for racing at the tracks? This is what i was recomened by one person.

    Comp 212/218 High lift version)
    comp 918 springs
    chromolly 7.4" pushrods
    And a
    Yank TT 3000
    Or a
    PI Vigilante 3200rpm 9.5" converter

So what are your thoughts? Thanks

Hey, you should probably put on your stock mass air flow sensor. the de-screened ones rob you of your power.
ok a nice cam for DD for the 5.3 would be something like what you said. maybe even up to a 220/220
the comp springs are nice for that size cam same with those harden 7.4 push rods. if you really want to hear the cam get a 112 lsa. if you want it more mild go for a 114. im not to sure about a converter though

Yeah i have heard that about the descreening the maf. But i already did it and now i have to buy another one and i dont want to when i want long tube headers and a cam.

Also what is the cams that cause your exhaust to sound nice. If that makes since?

Also what cam brand do you guys think is good. And do they make cam and spring and pushrods package?

Also what does the converter do?

Sorry so many question i am just new to mods on trucks.

....standing by my recommendation from the other site...

Keep the cam "small" - anywhere from a 212 to a 220 duration, new springs are a must, new pushrods are a must. Good brands are Comp, Lingenfelter, Texas Speed, etc. I would advise you to contact Billy at 817-703-3750. He can get you the parts you need and hook you up with the install at a good price. He's in Arlington, TX as is TRT Turbo who can take care of your install and tuning needs.

Yeah but i live up in oklahoma i would like to find a way to do it around here or do it myself with some help. Also i have a custom mail order tune from wheatley right now after i do my headers and if i do a cam swap should i keep that tune or have nelson do a mail order tune. That is if i do the work up in oklahoma.

Yeah, get a stock MAF back in there. That will help with gas mileage. Yeah, either contact Billy or I have someone who is a dealer for Texas Speed who can hook you up. I would suggest doing a 212/218 .525/.535 112 LSA with PR and valve springs. Also, a 2600-3000 stall would work well for you with that cam.

3K stall and the 212 cam will work great in your heavy truck, I had a 222/224 112 cam in my old truck when it had a 5.3 with a 2600 stall(suppose to be 3400) and it sucked. That cam and converter should match real well.

I keep on hearing that a descreen maf will cause bad gas mileage but i have not seen it on my truck i am getting 19.5 to 21 miles per gallon with a 4x4 truck i thought that was pretty good. so should i still get a new one or leave it the way it is for now?
