I never make up my mind what I want to do

I have my truck almost back to stock ready to sell and now I cant figure out what the hell I want to get next. Im getting a new job at the end of the year making a bit more money but I lose my company truck. So now I can justify having two vehicles if thats what I want to do. I can go one of two routes and both sound nice to me and the insurance for either scenario is damn near the same, its within a 100 bucks a year so that doesnt factor in to the equation. Im selling my current truck no matter what I dont want to be reminded of all the problems.

    Scenario 1:

Buy an 05 rcsb colorado extreme or the sport whatever it is called with a manual, drive it for a while like that and swap the 4.8 Im going to be picking up for cheap in a couple weeks along with a t56 and small cam and have with it for a while so I can feed the speed need. Ill most likely put a small shot of nitrous on it to have some fun with too since I have enough extra parts laying around for 3 nitrous kits. Total cost for that project would be around 14K including the price of the truck. When it came time to swap the 4.8 in(after the truck is paid off which would be almsot immediately with the sale of the Z71) I would buy an 05/06 dmax since I have to have a full size truck for the job Im taking. I would keep it damn near stock, exhaust and tune it with efi live and do some creature comfort stuff maybe wheels and tires but that would be about it, it would be a "work" truck. I would be into that for about 25K or so total since I have a connection for those type of trucks.

    Scenario 2:

Buy a nnbs dmax and do a few things to it. For the truck that I would want to get with this option would be around 40K or a little more after I get through doing a few things to it.

So with either option I end up at damn near the same point money wise but option one gives me a toy to play with and another form of transportation. My dad is buying a house here in Austin so I get to live in that for the next 4-5 years until he retires so basically I will be a care taker of the house and just pay utilities so the whole me buying a house thing is on hold for a while since its just too good of a deal to pass up. All I have to do in return is use some of my connections in the construction industry to redo the house, and I have to paint it and lay in new tile. Not a bad deal I dont think. I wont be doing anything for a while except maybe buying the colorado if I went that route and found the one I was looking for soon. Either way by the time my dad retires and I need to get a place of my own I will be able to save up enough money to damn near pay cash for the house I want so by getting these "toys" Im not screwing myself later on. Plus I will ahve two more loans on my credit to make it just that much better. What should I do because I sure as hell dont know.

Scenario 1 sounds good to me! Fuel may get sky high and the little truck even with the 4.8 should get decent fuel mileage.

Thats what I was thinking, there is a guy on PT with a 5.3 in an s10 with a 212/218 cam getting 20+mpg around town. I think highway mileage would be awesome with a t56. As far as gas goes though after I have been there a year they will pay for my gas and the commute to the project I will be on is only about 10 minutes in traffic so gas cost isnt a big concern. Eventually the little truck would get a forged 5.7 built out of the 5.3 out of the Z71 but that would be a while. I dont know what to do though. The thing i hated about working on my truck so much was it was my only transportation if I wanted to go see my family or whatever out of town but with this stuff I would have the other truck to still ahve the freedom to do whatever I want so if I broke something on the colorado it wouldnt be any big deal jsut fix it when I get the chance kind of thing.

It sounds like a fun project and like you say having two trucks would be icing on the cake!

The main thing I like about scenario one is, it will keep me from modding the hell out of the dmax with a built trans and huge tune etc and screwing it up. I HAVE to have a big truck for work, I wont need it every day but on days when I need to go to home depot to pic k up wood or pull a gooseneck with a loader on it or whatever I need it and I need it to be reliable so not modding it much would be a good thing. Im starting to convince myself more and mroe for 1.

Hey Cody, if you are tired of working on your truck or having a lot of problems i would go with #2. you keep it nice an simple, no swapping motors needs to be done. But if you want to play around some more, then go with #1.
Good luck with what ever you chose.

Thats why I said get the colorado and drive it for a while. Right now I couldnt handle working on anything I dont have to. Ive been slowly putting ym truck back together, I have install bumpers, lift, wheels/tires, winch and lights on my dads 06 rubicon, and next weekend Im putting a cam in Daniels SSS so I need a break from wrenching for a while but it seems I will always need some sort of little project to pick at in my spare time so I dont know.

And Ill probably need my hoist back sunday some time...
