Hi guys, I'm new to the site from Shreveport LA. My truck is a little older but I have a question to ask all of you. I have been looking for some time into getting a newer GM vehicle, possibly an LS1 T/A. However, recently a good buddy of mine got an ext. cab Sierra with a 4.8. I'm hooked and now I absolutely have to have an LS-based truck. My question is this: it may be a stupid question but what is the real difference performance wise between extended cab trucks and regular cab? Obviously there is a weight issue, but I see a whole bunch of significantly modded ext. cabs on this site that seem to handle themselves quite well, maybe even more of those than regular cabs. Is this just a preferential thing or what? I am personally used to the short wheelbase but extended cab seems a lot more practical as far as storage space etc..can someone please share some insight? I'm getting a 5.3L truck, 2wd either way, within the next couple of months or so. Thanks guys

Welcome to the site! You cam to the right place when asking for advice! I am not speaking for everyone on here that has an extended cab, but if I could do it all over again, I'd do a regular cab! There are many different things that differentiate the two, weight being the biggest factor. Second, you have the driveline. It's a one piece vs. two piece driveshaft... I could go on and on, but the RC is going to be quicker no matter what. If you only have one vehicle and need the extra space, then an exended cab is for you. That is the reason why I got the EC... There are many different suspension components (sway bars, polyurethane bushings, stiffer shocks) that can be added to make the EC feel more light on it's feet in the handliing dept. I am going to do sways soon cause the stock suspension is too sloppy for me. When you get your truck, you may want to consider getting a VHO or Vortec Max motor. They are badass. I had a standard cab before the extended cab and love the xcab. i got claustrophobic in the std cab. When traveling the xcab is nice because one passenger can snooze while the driver continues on down the road. The xcab makes long trips possible to be done without an overnight stay anywhere. You get to keep traveling down the road to your final destination, plus if it starts to rain and you don't have a tonneau cover you can put your luggage in the back seat.

Thanks for the input guys, I think it was a sign today when I got to the body shop where I work and there was an 06 RCSB 5.3 Silvy waiting for me to paint a custom hood the guy put on haha. Red, what kind of times does your truck run? That looks like a helluva motor and setup in your sig . Well thanks again for the advice
