saweet got my LT's on the silvy

i had my long tube headers put on this afternoon. and all i can say is holy freakin hell. i am just running open headers right now so i may lose a tad when the ORY finally gets here and i connect my exhaust but it shouldn't be much. but i took it for a spin, well my friend took it for a spin since i'm still taking vicodin for the pain of just having surgery. but first of all open headers sounds so mean it almost scares you . and second long tubes and procharger go very very good together. first gear is almost useless. it just left two long black marks from every stoplight. and i couldnt stop laughing, and i couldn't hear myself laughing. but we did break a stud on each side and have a few small leaks. but i have new gaskets coming in cuz the paper one suck. and i don't know what to do about the broken studs. i guess just deal with it till i get new heads, in a few months probably.

Did you break them taking the old studs off during removal? Or did you tighten them down too much? Ever thought of drilling out the studs and using an Easy-out to get out the rest out of the block?
One trick with the composite gaskets: Get some 3M Super77 sprayfix. Coat each side of the gasket with the sprayfix and then press on foil. Make sure to do 2-3 layers each side of the gasket. Then (very carefully) take a utility knife and carve out all of the port holes. Then put on the gasket. No leaks. Well, at least for me. I did that with my header install years ago and have never had to retighten the studs--or ever had a leak. I may have been the lucky one, but with all of the stories about leaky headers out there, it seems that 2-3 layers of foil helped...

thanks i'm gonna try that. my friend said he tried getting the studs out, but couldn't. he said one wrung off when he was taking of the manifold, and the other must have already been broke because it just fell off, when he was taking the second to last stud out. but i think more than likely the weight of the manifold broke it. when the gaskets come in i'm gonna see about getting the two broken studs out. because i really cant stand leaks. but i also ordered electronic cut touts last night because i liked the sound of open headers so much.

Yeah dude, the electric cutouts are badass...I thought I would only have them open every now and then...yeah right! Those bitches are open all the time! But your gas mileage goes to absolute CRAP when the cutouts are open...just FYI...
