when income tax comes in, i wanna do heads/cam if possible. would do cam only, but i want 400rw(and the tsp cam pulled 413rw cam only i believe). a few friends have been hyping up the TSP 231/237 w/s2 5.3 Patriot heads, but not sure for a daily driver yet. my buddy has the s2 Patriot heads with a tr224(daily driver) and is stepping up to the 231/237 later this spring/summer. balls to the wall type performance if you ask me, just a little hesitant to go that big right off the bat. any other cams you guys like and why?

I have heard some good things about that TSP cam too. I just want to give you a heads up on the 5.3 Patriot heads running that much lift... We had fits with a good friends WS6 with a G5X2 cam and those heads... Patriot could not set the springs up correctly and after the second set broke, we installed the REV double springs in his stock heads and has been great every since. The customer service from Patriot wasnt great either. Patroit finally refunded his money but it still cost him nearly $300 in hardware to swap the heads out three times. I just wanted to let you know of the problems since the x2 and the tsp cam you are looking at are very similar in profile. (btw.. G5X2 - 232/240 .595/.609 112+2) I think the TSP would be a good choice but you are definately going to need a good size converter to get a heavy truck moving.

my friend here had good customer service, from terry. he broke a spring and had some shipped to him the next day, and called him back to see how things were going. thats odd, ive only heard good things about em til now.

and thanks on the heads up(no pun intended). if i do that cam/heads, i think ill go double springs and be sure they'd fit fine before gettin em.

the clucth is a Spec Stage 3 carbon, and its a base model ~3900 truck(relatively light). i havent seen a torque comparison for the 231/237 yet, but im sure it looks very good.

Oops.. didnt know you had a manual tranny.

Well I wish we could have just replaced some springs but when his broke it ended up bending the valves with the broke springs so both sets of heads had to be sent back.

do those 5.3 heads help to build torque better? just always an assumption ive had. i know they raise the compression a little, but i figure the car heads are a little better designed for upper rpms? reason for asking is im sure you know they have the packages with the truck and car heads.

btw. i heard the MTI(?) X1 cam had similar specs...you happen to know those?

MTI's X1 is a reverse split at 230/227 .591/.571 112 but the R1 is closer to the two cams we have been talking about with 232/236 .575/.578 114 which I think would be a good choice in a truck since it will make power a little sooner in the rpm range than the LG or TSP cams. Plus the slightly less lift will make it better for a daily driver. The lift on my buddies WS6 almost makes it not streetable.

On another note... You may want to consider waiting till your buddy upgrades and get that TR224 from him. I have heard nothing but great things about this cam. I have a friend with it in his Z28 and he loves it.

Ya, the 6L i put in that xtend cab truck had the TR 224, ran pretty good even without a converter, so you'll have no problem getting is moving.

see the .590+ lift on the tsp cam is what makes me think twice too. i would like something that makes that power with a little less lift. and possibly with a 114 lsa, but with a m6 the 112 might not bother me much. never seen/heard about the R1 ill have to check it out more. whats MTI's website? i know the TR224 is a very popular cam, but im afraid "it may not be enough" lol

tr224 cam , ya, i don't think it's enuff either, i'm going as big as i can on the cam too, well as much as my heads will flow.
