Thread: boost or timing

  1. #1
ok guys i intstall my pi vig 2600 triple disc and wondering if its better to go more boost than timing, like i was before, i was at 13psi with 12*'s of timing, or should i stay at 9lbs and 18*'s of timing, i know the way im at now it's safe, but wanna jump into the 12's

cuz before when i ran stock stall in washington state with the 2.75pulley@10lbs and 13*'s of timing ran a 12.79@ 105mph with 60ft@1.88, and then installed the tbstall 2600 with sdtune, meth injection, 2.75pulley@13psi @12*'s of timing, here in texas ran a 13.59@96mph 60ft@1.84, then switched out the stall back to stock and put the 3.1pulley@9psi and 18*'s of timing and ran a 13.19@102mph 60ft@1.87, now have the pi 2600, cuz the tbstall wasnt just working with the radix, and wondering if i would of have the 2.75pulley@13psi and 12*'s of timing with now the pi vig triple disc 2600 would of been better on times

I've heard many people say timing is better than boost. It is kind of like less boost at a colder temp is better than more boost at a higher temp.

on pt.net they are telling me that maybe i can go with 15*'s of timing and maximized the boost, probably around 10-11psi of boost

I guess the thing is you can run as much boost and timing as you want as long as you have pleanty of fuel and no knock.

eddie have you tried a second intercooler....get another cooler and run it inline with your current one and see if that will keep your iat's down while running more boost....

The Radix is limited, so over turning the charger and demanding more boost is only going to create heat. Heat kills performance. Then, boost it too high, now you're left with hot intake temps, a hot charger and low timing because the pcm is pulling so much to keep KR down.

I wouldn't take the radix over 8-9psi and then maximize timing and keep the intake air as cold as possible.

However, sometimes it's hard to do this because every truck is different. Some trucks can take timing at the track, like mine 28degs hehehe, jk, and others can't.

If you want max power, go turbo! Just don't push that radix too far, or upgrade to the 122.

hope this helps, i sent you an email too,
    allen

Ah I guess I didn't realize this was a radix. Good advise Allen. I might learn to read someday!
