You will need a front diffuser/splitter to help keep the air from going underneath & producing lift.
[/b]
Oh, it would most definately be needed. Im going to drop my truck about 4-5 in the front and the rear will be dropped 6-7 and Im going to get one of the hd silverado lower valances and the tahoe front lip extension to help with airflow up front.

SC, have been out on the new section of 130 they just opened there is a big sweeping turn with a mile long stretch after the turn, you could hit the turn doing 90-100 and then stomp it, I bet you could wring it all the way out on that stretch.

i have really thought about doing that, with some diamond aluminum plate... but i never did for the fear of the reduction of air flow underneath and something getting too hot and not being abled to cool off
[/b]
u could put heat extractors built into the sheets to give some air flow.

I'm in depending on timing, so I've got to know asap what weekend it will be so I can plan around my kids coming out to TX for the summer. I can see now I'd better get my radar detector tuned-up!

I must agree with the splitter/diffuser idea plus it would lessen the drag from the parts under the truck. I wonder if anyone has ever skinned the bottom of their truck chassis with aluminum sheet to reduce drag at the track or even just on the highway for better MPG?
[/b]
I've already researched it, and yes DEFINITELY this is a good idea. According to testing by GM, just adding only a strip of sheet metal over the 10-inch gap between the outer body lip and the frame rail running from behind the front wheelwell to the front of the rear wheelwell will add .6-mph - that's a ton of drag. Also, on my truck when going over 120 the hood wants to lift off, so there's got to be a lot of drag/pressure being built up underhood as well...

edit:

also Mr P. what would be a good way to reduce teh pressure build up underneath the hood without sacrificing cooling to the engine compartment.... or is it one of those deals where you would have to choose the lesser of 2 evils

and same goes for the covers for underneath the truck... would heat be an issue??

and im also assuming the 120 mph + driving was done on the streets of Mexico, because they sure dont allow that here in Texas

My speedo stops at 120, so I guess that is all she had in her.

I have thought about those fender vents on the new Escalades. I wonder if that would allow some pressure release?

or a hood with the heat extractors built in it would definitely take care of that.

When you're moving vacuume will draw the heat out if you design it with a way for the air to draw through. Sitting still may be an issue unless the radiator fans can draw it out. Most engine compartments are very air tight. It's no wonder these things heat up so much when sitting still, there's no way for the hot air to get out.

thats my worries.... cause we all know and love the Dallas traffic around here.... it will either flow nicely at 80 mph or will be a dead stop with rubber neckers checkin out the other side of the highway.... the heat from sitting in traffic is what worries me the most.....
