It's like a friend of mine once said: stupid questions get stupid answers. I'm pretty sure you knew what we were going to say before you asked. And to answer your question of why put a 5.3 in a blazer: cos it would make for one kick ass blazer. Why doesn't your friend save whatever money he has and do some real power mods(motor swap) when he has the money saved up. If you don't like that then he should have bought something that is built to go fast. You can polish a turd all day long but at the end of the day you still have a turd.

Because if you search long enough you CAN find a 5.3 with a harness for less than 500. It may be high mileage but still can be found. Dependent on year model of blazer the tranny may already match up... With that being said he would need a tune for around 400 or find a tuner in your area for around 200(guess)... So with the help from the people on here he could swap for the odds and ends for around 1200 if he did the cheapest of everything and did the work himself. Then he would have a drivetrain that puts out much more hp and tq then he has now. Not to mention he would have EVERY bolt on to still add to it. So he would have tons of potential left. OR he can spend 500 or more doing bolt-ons to his ride and not gain any REAL power from it. Or save up and peice things together and have REAL gains.... Not to mention most the people I know with the 4.3 blazer got bad gas mileage... Maybe just them but my truck with a 5.3 gets better mileage. So he could probably save some money in gas from the swap... Not to mention can you imagine a EVEN lightly modded 5.3 in a blazer

I think we may be wasting our finger muscles man... I don't think this dude will want to do a motor swap.....he is wanting cheap mods..... its kinda like those people who come into the stereo shop that want a competition level sound system and say: I only have about $300. Okay.... we have this JVC cd player for that, or you can get this bottom of the line amp...or I can build you a ported box.. thats about it, come back when you got about 700 to throw at it. FYI Aballl18, I just sold a complete and running 5.3 with a complete harness for $350. you can't hardly get an intake for that.

We may be wasting our time.... I believe the Duck man did a fully bolted 4.3 and ended up swapping to a 5.3 in the end... Now we all know his is turbod now. Bolting a extremely weak motor is senseless, And to the OP could your friend afford the above price for the motor and harness? I know your friend is looking to do things for free but it isnt that easy bro. If you are really his friend you wont let him start wasting his money for gains he will ALWAYS be disappointed with..... If he doesnt want to spend the money to be fast then he isnt really wanting to be fast. I advise just tell him to make it look good and let it be that. (Thats the same thing I say to every ricer in my area honestly)

Cheap, replace the air intake tube between the box and throttle body. Free, get rid of the entire air intake system and cut a hole in the hood.
