Hey AK--I do not doubt your service tech knowledge, but I have never put anything less than Top Tier Gasoline in my tank--and my float is waaaaaay jacked up. I highly doubt it is the type of gas people use. It is all in the design of the float and sending unit. How come other manufacturers don't have the same issue with their fuel pump sending units? My 1990 Honda Accord has never had problems reading the exact amount of fuel in its tank--and I do not care about the quality of gasoline that goes in that thing...but it reads true, even after 18 years. Even the OBS trucks had the same issue--partly due to the fact that they have the same design (relatively) that the NBS truck's sending units do. I run fuel injector cleaner through it every now and then and it hasn't cured my faulty sending unit problem--ever.
Like I said, I am not calling BS on you, its just that I know it is in the design of the unit and electrical connectors--not the grade of gasoline...

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.

These six auto makers came up with this, not me. Anyways, it could be a regional problem with fuel quality here in the Last Frontier, that caused all these problems we deal with. We probably replaced 50 fuel pump modules per week at the last place I worked, mostly due to fuel.

AK--I know (and well aware) what Top Tier is...

I am not saying you came up with it and I am also saying I do not doubt your knowledge or experience--I was just saying that I personally doubt the quality of gasoline is the reason for the faulty fuel pump/sending units.

I know that you know your chit when it comes to this stuff by reading the content of your replies to the questions people ask... I just have a hard time trying to believe that the quality or grade of gasoline is the culprit to these faulty units...

Mine jumps around like that too....its really no big deal because I drove it till the low fuel light came on even when the gauge was jumping around and eventually it started sputtering and the light never went off so the light works regardless if the gauge is reading correctly or not.

    Cool

Wow, I'm starting to think that I'm the only one here with a working fuel gauge.

mine works great, besides the fact i gotta tap the cluster cuz it sticks on the face, lol. whats weird tho is that if im moving and i drop it into neutral and rev it, the needle drops all the way to empty and low fuel flashes and then goes back to normal. oh yeah, i keep my fuel system in tip top shape- i only run sunoco 93, change my fuel filter every 3000 miles or oil change, and use fuel system cleaners such as lucas or chevron at least once or twice a month...probably a little overkill, but for the way i drive and race, maintance is top priority with me.
