I tried the high temp paint. Like the 1500 degree stuff and it discolored and baked right off after a few months.
I put several coats on it so rust wouldnt develop but it did anyway and helped the paint come off. Its a waste of $20 in paint and time.

I dont understand how they can be LT's when they are supposed to bolt right up to the exsisting y pipe. Is this a y pipe they make that is specific for their headers? Or do you have to get an exhaust shop to chop up your exsisting y pipe to and use the flanges of the factory y pipe for the headers. I would just get the Pacesetters and be done with it. He has an online store and you can buy un coated as well for like 100 bucks cheaper. I dont know what he keeps in stock but its worth a shot. Sorry i dont konw how to post a hyperlink.

Maybe I'm confused - don't the Pacesetter LT's bolt directly up to your factory Y pipe if you don't use theirs? I thought the point of using theirs is to eliminate the cats...

You have to get custom work done to merge the headers to the stock ypipe. Their pipe will bolt to the headers and then back to your stock pipe without custom exhaust work.

Paint baked off my headers in one week. Get coated.

Its not the pacesetters, Don't the Dynatech longtubes bolt right up to the stock Y pipe? How is that possible?

Nope, crawl under your truck and look at your y-pipe, you'll see that the stock y will not work with lt without having them cut and customized.

Hmm... I just thought I always heard they bolted right up. I figured that was kinda odd. So no matter what LT you get, you have get custom work done? Seems right though. Is it a waist of money to get shortys or midlength?

Due to the marginal price difference, I would say yes shorties are a waste of money. My opinion. Mid's or lT's are worth the money if designed correctly.

I'm not an expert by any means, but from a lot of the reading I've done, some of the important things are:

Making sure the primaries are the right diamater (too small constricts, too big slows the gasses down causing backpressure)

Making sure the primaries are very close to the same length. Unequal lengths can actually affect the A/F ratio making it difficult to tune the vehicle.

Making sure the primaries are the proper length for your use (shorter will give higher RPM power, longer will give more torque, an ideal tube for most truck guys will give a smooth range across the board)

Making sure the collector is also the right diamater (same reason as primaries)

Making sure the taper of the collector is gradual. Shorties usually have very short tapers, which disrupts the flow of gasses more than a longer taper.

Preferably, where the four primaries come together, you don't want the 'square' that is left in the center of the four pieces when they enter the collector. Ideally, the tubes should come together in a "+". You don't want:

    <primaries

You want that square in the middle of the tubes eliminated. It causes less turbulence.
