i was in the auto zoo the other day looking for a serp. belt for my truck. I give them this information first "2000 silverado, 5.3" They were actually pretty intellengent till this point "Sir, I'm not showing the listing for a 2k HDSS" when they said that i started ROTFLAMO "They never made a 1500 HD till like 03-04, and the did not make the SS till 03-04" But was very suprised that they could look at my grille and know it was and HD grille. Some times they are intellengent and some times they are just plain dumb asses

Most dont know how to think other than what the computer shows them. Heck they dont even know how to look something up in a catalog or a book anymore.

When I was in High School and Some College, mid to late 80s and Early 90s, I worked at several parts stores in town. We used to look everything up by parts catalogs. As I was leaving the parts business, they were getting the computers to look up the parts. I think this is where the gap started on knowledge. Now they rely on the computers even when they do not even know what the part looks like. Also lack of training.

I think Orielly's has some of the best parts if you buy the premium parts. First they try to sell you the aftermarket crap but they also have the first quality or original equipment parts, too.

Advance Auto has always been my best bet, lol mainly because I am teaching them the shit every time i go in there. If its about a NBS chevy and I've had the problem, they know how to fix it. They also know who to call for custom PCM tuning

The zone is junk anymore. Their parts have gone down hill farther and farther. They wanted me to manage a store I laughed so hard it is crazy. No thank you. I worked in the NAPA Indy D.C. and did comercial sales for Oreilly's. I still get calls from ppl that use to be customers of mine. Sometimes I even get calls from managers at the stores when they need help. I am like dang the part is right on the counter behind you. I was working a deal with NOS systems to go out to the track and get some deals for the racers but the other managers just looked at me with a stupid look and said no one actually buys that stuff. I was like then why the hell do you even list it in a catalog. Heck the school in schertz/cibilo wanted to convert a van they used to a Holley Fuel Injection setup and the employees had no clue what they were talking about. Needless to say I had the parts ordered for them with in 15mins and delivered the next day. You have to think outside of the box. Wait I take that back you have to actually be able to think. That is what they are lacking. If the district manager can not even answer a simple question about products that are listed in your catalog you need to seriously look at the ppl you have working for you. It is a joke. I just wonder how many ppl have spent more money than they needed on the wrong parts given to them. 95% of these ppl are not mechanics or at least quality mechanics. Then what the hell do you think they are doing behind a counter. If you have no clue what a stinking part is and your manager has no clue then the district manager has no clue something is wrong. These suposed major suppliers had me going through my conections in the auto market to find parts because they were clueless. Sorry this post is so long but that stuff drives me nuts. They seriously need to revamp all of the parts houses for the most part because they have become a joke.
