Definitely no NOS.
I installed this 6L about 3 years ago in place of a 4.8L. It has a 224 cam, but that's it.

I have seen that b4. Let a relative barrow my old truck, they did not let the engine warm up and decided to hot rod it after specific instructions to let it warm up. What do you think the out come was. Exact same thing. Talk about pissed. That is one cause i know of.Originally posted by farmtruc@Jan 5 2006, 09:32 PM

That is very possible! This guy is very hard on trucks and the engine should be able to take the punishment of an NA engine, but I guess if it's not warm it wouldn't.Originally posted by docone882000@Jan 6 2006, 09:31 PM

this is exactly the same thing that happen to me 1 time...i was feelin a little goodOriginally posted by farmtruc@Jan 5 2006, 09:04 PM
I found the problem, LOL.
The added oil must have been just a coincedence.
I drained the oil and found small pieces of ring on the magnet. I then pulled the pan and I found a piston with a broken piston skirt.
What causes this?
thanks,
allenand got in a old 97 stepside xcab i had with a tune and cam when it was cold and stomped on it and i broke a skirt off a piston and it didnt like it either...i had to run it another 3 days like that before i was off work to check it out and figure out what was wrong with it.....

The tolerances are a little different on a cold engine. The piston is a little loose in the bore. Thus giving more piston slap. Under normal driving it is not noticable. But when pushed hard it is harder on the parts. The worst is cast pistons. I hate those things. Snap crackle POP, it aint no rice crispies.![]()
Anytime i can help i am there. Ya I plan on being there on the 20th. Are you meeting up at the strip in santa clara? I would love to get a base line on the truck. Watch the times improve as I mod it out.
