Hey gear your right man, even at 90MPH 6th gear is still way too tall. Im planning on dropping a detroit locker with 4.10's when I get back to the states. I dont think it would hurt fuel that bad and will definetely help down at the track. When I ran it at the track I only used third gear pretty much for those last 100 feet or so.
    Had a 91 SB, Open diff, 3.08 gears, stock LS1/T56. 14.8@95.9...sold.
    Now, 90 C1500 350tbi/NV3500....just bought a 5.3...need T56, Swap parts.....

Hey no im not doing the T56 swap right now, just the rearend. What im saying is if i have to shorten it now for the rearend to fit I would like to shorten it more to accomodate the T56 for the future so i dont have to do it twice. I am installing 4.10s so i should be ok with the T56. What is the most amount of play in the driveshaft that is still safe?

    thanks,
    Mike

You guys don't want 4.10's believe me, I tried them. I am running 4.56's and run 80mph @ 2000 rpm's with a 29.7" tire. Learn from my mistake you won't regret it. If I was going to be pulling a heavy trailer much then you would want 4.88's. I drove my truck on a 700 mile trip and ran between 80-90 and got 19.888 mpg with the 4.56's.

Are you serious? 80 and only 2K revs, I couldnt tell on mine cuz mine tach wasnt working yet. I was actually a little iffy about the 4.10's thinkin they were too low but now I dont know. By the way 6 gear that is one hell of a truck and thats just by looking at your avatar. What drop and size rims do you have?

you guys are answering my questions before I even ask 'em...maybe you can help with one big overall question. I have 3 low mile engine options any would be backed up by T-56...I have a 93 C-1500 4.3L non vortec w/5spd manual now. I have a LS1 or LT1 or 4.3l Marine vortec long block...seems the LS1 is the most popular but I don't own it. I can buy it and the T-56 together w/zo6 intake complete with EVERYTHING except exhaust manf and accessories. for $3500. It seems from the posts I've read the LS1 is really the cheaper more valued swap....problem is I own the 4,3 and a good T-56....but need all the induction and ignition for it...vs exhaust and accessories plus purchase the LS1.....HELP! Ken

My problem is I still have the 4spd auto now and I had to do the rear end right away. 4.56 would have been way too much I think and I had to buy the eaton posi to what gears i was putting in. Too late to change now so I hope the 4.10s are enough.

If you are running a short tire around 26" then 4.10's won't be to bad but if you are running 28" or taller then go with 4.56. Talk to some of the other people that are running the T56.

I haven't updated my avatar since I got in on a group purchase of Eagle 219 wheels and since I went to a Z71 Tahoe front, roll pan, sport mirrors and painted to match my truck. The wheels in this pic were 20"x 8.5 Dare wheels. I have a 2-4 drop.

Hey deuces, it all depends on what you are looking for. Alot people will tell you the 4.3 is basically a 350 minus two cylinders so someparts are interchangeable. However the amount of power you can squeeze out of them while keeping it street friendly is limited. With the Gas price is almost insane to be running a radical engine back and forth.
My opinion go with the LS1 if you got the cash, besides for $3500 you can pick up whole motors with accesories and tranny. Where? That I dont know, maybe one of the experts like Redheartbeat can answer that for you.

Local salvage yards are the place to find them complete for a decent price. I paid $1400+tax for a complete 98 engine and trans with harness, pcm and accessories. You just have to call around. You don't have to get the harness and PCM with the engine unless you are going to rewire it yourself. Most harness builders sell you a new one without exchange. If you go Painless brand they used to run a 97/98 PCM only. Others build the harness per your specs. Good thing about Painless is they can build you one with extra length to mount the PCM almost anywhere you want to put it. Others may do that also. Personally, I prefer the 2002 PCM since it's supposed to have an advanced processor on board and the tune is more aggressive from the factory.

I have done the T56 swap as well! I am running my stock 3.73s and at 70mph I am tachin at 1500rpms and 80mph around 1600rpms. I am really thinking of the 4.56s sometime down the road.

Edit: I reused my stock drive shaft too!
