One nutbag was claiming that this time next year we will be paying $10.00 a gallon for gas. If that happens we're all screwed. We'll have to cut the cable and dsl to afford to drive to work. We'll be back to the days of the 20s and 30s where they couldn't afford but the bare necessities of life.
Next thing you know we'll be outsourcing the manufacture of gasoline to other countries too. Oh wait, we already do that. Natural gas, yes, we're buying that from other countries, too. What is our country coming to? We are nothing but consumers and we are sending all of our money out of the country.

Yes RedHeartbeat, we in the US are the world's ultimate consumers. It is ingrained in our culture now and will take a generation or more for the current attitudes to change. It may not be possible. Who knows. Hell, 30 years from now people in China may be saying the same things about themselves.
In the mean time, maybe there's a stop gap on the petroleum front. Check out this article just as an example:

It's a simple solution for us. We simply invade and take over Canada, then tell OPEC to :flipoff: themselves.
OBVIOUSLY I'M JUST KIDDING ABOUT THE INVADING CANADA PART! But not about telling OPEC to shove it.

My good buddy's father is an oil and gas broker, deals with futures and other oddities I don't fully understand such as cracks too.
Anyway, as I spoke to him last week apparently coal is going to be a big factor again as it's supply is huge. It's just not too friendly on the environment, which with enough money I'm sure can be reacted with other chemicals or metals and cleaned up easily. Petrol is some form is used to run most power plants also and now it's getting so spendy to even use it for that reason.
